We are very pleased to be featuring a new episode of the Sustainable Lighting Design podcast, this time with Associate Professor Tarek Rakha, a researcher, educator, and entrepreneur who focuses on integrating building design technologies and environmental sustainability to address the needs of underserved communities. He is Associate Professor of Architecture and Director of the High-Performance Building Lab (HPBL) at Georgia Tech, and Co-founder and CEO of Lamarr.AI. Tarek is an architect by training, and before joining Georgia Tech in 2019 he was Assistant Professor at Syracuse University, after earning a Ph.D. in Building Technology from MIT in 2015.
In this episode " Energy efficiency: accelerating the transition to Net Zero buildings " , we talk with Associate Professor Tarek Rakha to explore the nuances of net-zero versus net-positive buildings and address the role that electric and natural lighting have when aiming to achieve energy efficiency. Further, we discuss how specific research and tangible data serve as critical allies for vulnerable communities to face the impacts of climate change and inequality. Additionally, Professor Rakha introduces us to his pioneering startup, Lamarr.AI, which utilizes advanced drone technology and artificial intelligence to analyze building structures. An initiative that aims to enhance energy efficiency in existing buildings and promote decarbonization efforts, thereby contributing to a more sustainable future.
Enjoy!
